Today, on October 8, on the eve of the Yom Kippur holiday, the mourning process “The Road of Death” has taken place. The procession was organized by the Kyiv City Jewish Community together with other member organizations of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine.
78 years ago, 9 Tishrei according to the Jewish calendar, on the eve of the greatest holiday for the Jews – Yom Kippur – mass executions began in Babi Yar. 33,771 Jews were shot in the first two days, September 29 and 30, 1941. That was the beginning of the tragedy that went down in history under the name Babi Yar.
Jews marched in a continuous column from the current Lukianivska metro station along Melnykov Street to Babi Yar.
Since then, according to many years of tradition, these days the Jews of Kyiv repeat the route of their doomed ancestors, to honor their memory and to prevent the world from forgetting this tragedy.
