Terrorist attack in a German synagogue: two dead

Today, in the German city of Halle, a local Jewish community gathered in the synagogue for the Yom Kippur festive prayers. Stephan Balliet (27) opened fire on the people outside and tried to lay explosives under the door of the synagogue to break in. He also threw another pack of explosives into the Jewish cemetery located right there. Two persons – a man and a woman – died on the spot. There are also severely injured persons.

The criminal broadcast the entire attack online. The police arrested Balliet after he got in an accident trying to escape.

The Jewish confederation of Ukraine is horrified by the attack. We, as all the Jews around the world, are in mourning together with the relatives of the victims.

We also urge Jewish communities around the world to be vigilant during great holidays.
