JCU street renaming statement

Київ - європейське місто
05/12/2018

Dear friends!

Today, when Ukraine is experiencing disturbing times, there is a special need for unity and respect of all citizens, all true patriots. Ukraine has proclaimed its path to the  European Union, where a spirit of democracy and tolerance for all peoples living in it prevails.
Leaving this course brings a danger of  return to the time of a totalitarian regime in Ukraine.
That is why our anxious about attempts of some political forces, including those who are members of the Kyiv City Council, to name one of the streets of the capital, after a monk, Dmitry Dontsov. In his ideological works, there are chauvinistic concepts and offensive speeches addressed to other peoples. Many of his ideas openly stir up interethnic hostility.
Therefore, in view of these circumstances, we appeal to Kyiv City Council and Mayor of the Kiev City Mr. Vitaly Klitschko not to name any street in the capital of Democratic Ukraine after D. Dontsov.
