The idea that the United States does not want to interfere in the war in Ukraine, while others can do whatever they want, is not very positive for the United States itself in the context of the slogan “America First.” This was stated by Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, Speaker of the Knesset (2013-2020), during the Fifth Kyiv Jewish Forum.
“This is not in the interests of the members of this administration or their advisors. It would be wise to think twice about the American policy in this region,” Edelstein said.
At the same time, he believes that Ukraine is doing a very good job of shaping the attitude to the war among the international community.
“I have to admit, I thought that this overwhelming support would last for weeks, at best months. But it has been going on already for two and a half years. I'm not happy that the war has lasted so long, but at least the international community is still with Ukraine. And I hope that this will bring a solution to the war closer,” Edelstein said.
At the moment, he is not sure that anyone can offer a positive way out of the conflict, because it is quite obvious that Ukraine cannot agree to all territorial concessions, and on the other hand, Russia does not want to end the conflict by withdrawing from the Ukrainian territory.
“Therefore, it does not look very promising. But I sincerely hope that this long-term support of the international community will play its role,” said the former speaker of the Israeli parliament.
As you know, the Kyiv Jewish Forum is organized by the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine and by The Jerusalem Post.
This year, Washington, D.C., became the main venue for holding the Forum. The media partners of KJF-2024 are NV, Obozrevatel, RBC-Ukraine, Telegraf, Inter.
Let’s recall that KJF-2024 opened with an opening speech by Boris Lozhkin, President of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine, Vice President of the World Jewish Congress. In particular, he reminded that during the previous term of Donald Trump, Ukraine began to receive more actively military support, which subsequently helped to counter Russian aggression.
