A new wave of anti-Semitism is now unfolding in the world, which was unthinkable a year ago. Robert Singer, chairman of the Center for Jewish Impact, is confident that the future administration of the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will take the fight against anti-Semitism to a new level and continue to work to truly eliminate this phenomenon.
He and other experts stated this during a speech at the Fifth Kyiv Jewish Forum.
“After spending ten years in New York as the head of the Prime Minister's Office and CEO of the World Jewish Congress, I could not have imagined that we would have come to this situation in 2024. Next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the use of anti-Semitic slogans and what's happening in the streets in the United States, in Europe, and in various places around the world is something that none of us could have imagined coming back,” Singer said.
According to him, 90% of Israelis are very optimistic about the new US president. He said that there is a feeling among Israelis that the next administration will be very positive toward Israel. At the same time, about 96% of European Jews have been exposed to anti-Semitism over the past year.
“The attitude of the American administration to the global problem of anti-Semitism will be crucial, especially in the coming years. I think that when we talk about this problem, what is happening on university campuses (mass manifestations of anti-Semitism – ed.) is, of course, terrible. The same thing is happening on European campuses. Let me remind you that this is where it all started. Now it has come to the United States. This is a global phenomenon, and from Israel's point of view, the United States should be a leader in the fight against anti-Semitism around the world, not just in the United States,” Singer said.
William Daroff, CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, noted that the bond between the United States and Israel is incredibly strong.
“There are literally tens of thousands of American sailors and soldiers in the Middle East right now who were not there until October 7, 2023. They ensure the security of the region for Israel and for the West. The support that the United States has provided in the form of weapons has been incredibly positive, as well as moral support,” Daroff said.
He believes that Trump has been a pro-Israel president before, and now he will be Trump 2.0.
