In response to the death of Dr. Henry A. Kissinger at age 100, World Jewish Congress President Ambassador Ronald S. Lauder issued the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Henry Kissinger, a towering figure who represented the best of the World War II generation. As a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany, he intimately understood the freedoms that the United States symbolized during a pivotal era. As a distinguished National Security Council official and as Secretary of State, he addressed some of the most complex issues of the mid-20th century.
Dr. Kissinger was not only a dear friend but also a revered supporter of the World Jewish Congress. Having been honored with our Theodor Herzl Award in 2014, he continued to grace our events, sharing insights from his unique perspective as a Jewish refugee. His narratives, always full of clarity and understanding of the Jewish plight, have left an indelible mark on our hearts and minds.
We mourn the loss of a statesman whose wisdom and friendship were a beacon of light. Dr. Kissinger’s passing leaves a void in our world that will be profoundly felt.“
