AJC CEO David Harris is one of the most consistent friends of Ukraine. It was he who, with his speech at the Global Forum AJC, caused a standing ovation in the Central Synagogue of New York, when the entire hall chanted: “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” - wrote Boris Lozhkin, the JCU President, on Facebook.
In the 115-year history of the American Jewish Committee, one of the most respected Jewish communities in the world, David Harris has been chairing the Committee for over 30 years.
In 1991, it was the AJC under his leadership that influenced the decision of US President George W. Bush to recognize the independence of Ukraine. And in 2014, the interests of Ukraine had to be lobbied in the Cabinet of Barack Obama, insisting on the need to provide Ukrainians with lethal weapons.
AJC is still a reliable advocate for Ukraine on the world stage today. I thanked David for many years of support of Ukrainians and the Jewish community.
