Chief Rabbi of Kyiv and Ukraine, member of the Presidium of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine Yaakov Dov Bleich took part in commemoration of the Jews who perished at Babyn Yar.
It is the 77th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy at the end of September this year. Traditionally, on the eve of Yom Kippur, the Jewish organizations in Kyiv and Ukraine organize the mourning procession “On the Road of Death.” This year, about a hundred participants took part in the event. The procession was led by the Ambassador of Israel to Ukraine Joel Lion and the Rabbi Dov Bleich.
The day of memory of the victims of the tragedy falls on September 29th - that very day when 77 years ago mass executions began in Babyn Yar. More than 100,000 people were killed in Babyn Yar, two thirds of whom were Jews.
Since Yom-Kippur feast was on September 29, 1941, the Jews traditionally commemorate their dead not only on September 29, but also on the Yom-Kippur day.
